John McNish joined the firm in 2004, leaving Topeka, Kansas for Marysville, Kansas. He was born in Hiawatha, Kansas and spent most of his childhood in Clay Center, Kansas. Admitted to the Kansas Bar in 1981, his education includes a Legal Masters in Taxation (L.L.M.) from the University of Missouri in Kansas City, a law degree (J.D.) from the University of Kansas, and a degree (B.B.A. Economics) from Kansas University where he graduated magna cum laude.
John has served as County Attorney for Dickinson County, where he handled 50 jury trials. He has also served as Attorney for the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals and Director of Advisory Staff for the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC). He has represented clients before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Kansas appellate and district courts and the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals. He has represented the Kansas Corporation Commission before the Kansas legislature, district and appellate courts and federal tribunals and courts.
John’s wife, Laura Johnson-McNish, is also an attorney, C.P.A. and is published in the Washburn Law Journal. She assists the firm as-needed. John and Laura are the proud parents of two sons, currently in college.

Darold Bolton is the founder of Bolton & McNish. He was born and raised in Frankfort, Kansas. Admitted to the Kansas Bar in 1969, he has successfully practiced law in Washington, Clay and Marshall County, Kansas. His education includes a law degree from Washburn School of Law (J.D.) and a degree from Washburn University (B.A.). He was a member of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. He has represented clients before administrative tribunals, state district courts and state appellate courts and is licensed to practice before the federal courts.
Prior to establishing his own private practice, Darold served as Research Attorney for Kansas Supreme Court Justices, Deputy Insurance Commissioner for the State of Missouri, and County Attorney for Marshall County. Darold, of counsel, enjoys spending time with his wife, Janet.
